Texas Health Resources plans historical $300M expansion

Arlington-based Texas Health Resources plans to invest $300 million in an expansion project at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth — the largest construction project in the health system’s history.

The expansion features a nine-story surgical patient tower, which will house 144 beds, 15 surgical suites, space for support services and a pre-operative and post-operative area. In addition, two floors of the tower will be left vacant to accommodate future expansions. The project also calls for additional parking spaces.

The 15 operating suites are expected to increase the hospital’s daily surgical capacity by about 30 percent.

“With this new tower, we’re expanding our capacity for more complex procedures and advanced care, which lets people in Fort Worth and nearby communities stay close to home when they need care,” said Barclay Berdan, CEO of Texas Health Resources. “It’s about responding to the needs of the people we serve.”

Construction on the tower is expected to start in mid-2018. It is slated for completion in 2021.
