Tennessee hospital wins state approval for 72-bed, $47M expansion

Murfreesboro, Tenn.-based Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital will begin a 72-bed, $47 million expansion after receiving a certificate of need from the Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency, according to the Daily News Journal.

The new expansion project is expected in improve patient flow and increase capacity for outpatient services. In addition to the bed expansion, the project will include constructing a patient decision unit for patients staying less than 24-hours.

“Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital is among the most profitable and well-run hospitals within the Ascension chain, which further supports the capital investment made into this community. Our goal on a long-term basis is to best serve the health-care needs of this rapidly growing community,” said Gordon Ferguson, president and CEO of Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

In addition, the state approved Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital’s proposal for a 13,000-square-foot ambulatory surgical treatment center in partnership with United Surgical Partners International, a Chicago-based company.
