Due to declining pediatric inpatient admissions and a partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital, Milford Regional plans to close the unit, according to the report. However, this would mean families whose children require inpatient care would have to drive a half an hour or more to seek care at Boston Children’s or UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, according to the report.
The proposal has to be approved by the state Department of Public Health. A decision is expected by Dec. 30, according to the report.
