Phoenix Children's prepares to open new Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders

Phoenix Children's Hospital will open its new Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders later this month.

The 17,000-square-foot center, located on the second floor in the hospital's main tower, will provide twice as much space as the old CCBD, hospital officials said via news release. Features include 15 private exam rooms, six blood-draw spaces and an activity space for patients. Additionally, the center will offer a new area for patients to prepare and recover from procedures as well as new infusion bays.

Phoenix Children's said the new center was built in response to growing patient volume at the old center. A total of 8,900 patients were treated at the old center in 2007 compared to 22,420 last year. The center is also expanding services.

Hospital officials said the new facility is slated to open to patients Oct. 18.
