Michigan couple buys former hospital with plans to convert to bed and breakfast

A couple in Eaton Rapids, Mich., purchased a supposedly haunted former hospital with plans to renovate the Victorian building and convert it to a bed and breakfast, according to the Lansing State Journal.

The former 20-bed Stimson Hospital operated between 1918 and 1957, delivering over 3,000 babies in that time. Local lore has it that a physician fell down an empty elevator shaft to his death in 1919, and it is said his ghost still haunts the building. In the 1970's the building was divided into four apartments,

The couple plans to convert the building's apartments into a bed and breakfast over the next several years. Deb Malewski, a trustee with the Eaton County Historical Commission, believes the move will be good for the community.

"I'm glad that they are taking this step," Ms. Malewski said, according to the Lansing State Journal. "I think everyone will be happy about it."
