Mayo consolidates inpatient surgery services between Austin and Albert Lea facilities

All inpatient surgeries at Mayo Clinic Health System’s campus at Albert Lea, Minn., will be moved in June to its Austin, Minn. Campus, ABC 6 News reports.

The plan to transition inpatient surgery, birthing and ICU services from Albert Lea to Austin was announced in June 2017. Mayo officials cited decreasing patient volume and physician shortages as the reason for the move, opposed by many Albert Lea residents.

"We are looking at how to best maximize the services that we provide throughout our communities," Mayo spokesperson Julie Hobbs told ABC 6 News. "We will be transitioning all inpatient services to the Austin campus during the first week in June."
