La Porte Hospital plans to break ground on $125M facility

La Porte (Ind.) Hospital, part of Indianapolis-based Indiana University Health, chose the site of its new $125 million facility, officials announced Thursday.

The system examined more than 20 locations in the area and solicited input from hospital staff, physicians, the board and the community. It chose to build the new facility at its current site downtown. "La Porte Hospital staff and physicians are deeply committed to having a thriving community hospital, and we are excited to announce this major step forward. The site selection process was comprehensive, and we are confident that 1007 Lincolnway is the ideal location for us to be able to continue to provide high quality, compassionate acute care to the communities we serve," Ashley Dickinson, CEO of La Porte Hospital, said in a statement.

Factors that were taken into account included the how appropriate the lot was for the building, traffic, community accessibility, distance from an EMS station and visibility, among others. Hospital leaders also chose the site and are drawing up plans keeping in mind they may need to accommodate future growth.

Plans are still being drawn up, but construction is expected to begin on the facility in 2018. Officials expect it to be roughly 200,000 square feet and include a medical office building.
