Monroeville, Pa.-based Forbes Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, broke ground on a $16 million perioperative center Monday.
The 50,000-square-foot center will feature 50 percent more space for cardiac procedures, double Forbes Hospital's post-acute care unit, and house a new electrophysiology lab and an expanded gastrointestinal lab.
The groundbreaking comes a week after Allegheny Health Network and Pittsburgh-based Highmark Health announced they will spend more than $1 billion to construct new facilities and renovate existing medical buildings during the next four to five years.
The perioperative center is slated to open in December 2018.
