VA seeks deputy CMO to oversee EHR modernization project

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is looking to hire a deputy CMO at its Office of EHR Modernization to help ensure the agency's  Cerner records system is synchronized with the Defense Department's.

Interested applicants should be familiar with clinical treatment modalities, administrative and clinical support systems, and multifaceted healthcare delivery systems, according to a blog post on the VA's website describing the position.

The VA established the OEHRM to oversee the agency's $10 billion, 10-year EHR overhaul. The office is charged with managing the preparation, deployment and maintenance of the VA's new Cerner health records system, including ensuring the EHRs at the VA and the Defense Department are interoperable.

"OEHRM is setting a new standard in the development of electronic health records and in the seamless sharing of patient data between VA and DOD," VA Associate Director for Recruitment Marketing Darren Sherrard said. "OEHRM leaders will be at the forefront of this transformation, which promises to drive better clinical outcomes by giving providers a fuller picture of veterans' medical histories."
