VA appoints clinical executive to lead its Oracle Cerner EHR modernization project

The Department of Veterans Affairs named David Massaro, MD, as functional champion for its Oracle Cerner EHR modernization program, FedScoop reported Aug. 2.

Dr. Massaro, who stepped into the role Aug. 1, will oversee the development and implementation of the modernization program across VA offices, and will lead functional initiatives to support the department’s medical personnel.

Prior to this, Dr. Massaro served as acting chief health informatics officer for the Office of Community Care within the VHA’s Office of Health Informatics.

His appointment comes as the VA works to address concerns over the delayed and over-budgeted EHR rollout.
