The ONC opened submissions for its Certified Health IT Product List Data Challenge on July 10.

The challenge invites software developers to create tools to analyze data from the ONC's Certified Health IT Product List, a comprehensive list of health IT products that have been approved as part of the agency's certification program. The database comprises 300-plus listings of health IT products certified under the agency's latest criteria, including structured data on testing and certification.

Here are three things to know about the challenge:

1. The ONC is asking developers to create software products that analyze the Certified Health IT Product List's data in any way that helps to "enrich healthcare providers, healthcare consumers and the health IT community's understanding of certified health IT."

2. To apply to participate in the challenge, a developer must create a slide deck describing the application's requirements, a video demonstrating how the tool is used and a copy of the software application, among other stipulations.

3. The ONC will award the first-place winner $20,000, and two runners-up will receive $10,000 each. The agency will reveal the names of the winners Dec. 3.

Applications are due Oct. 31. To access the ONC's application instructions, click here.
