Montana health system switches to Epic

A Montana health system plans to go live with a new Epic EHR on March 1, KRTV reported.

Great Falls-based Benefis Health System is switching from Meditech on the inpatient side and NextGen Healthcare for outpatient. All Benefis patients will now use Epic's MyChart patient portal.

"If you were to visit our emergency department when they open up your record and they're treating you, they'll be able to see a visit that you had in the doctor's office a day before or weeks before, and be able to anticipate potentially what your issues are," Forrest Ehlinger, executive vice president of system business operations, told the news outlet. "And the same on the back side."

The health system brought aboard 36 new permanent employees for the Epic shift and will have more than 600 consultants helping with the launch, according to the Feb. 14 story.

Benefis has two hospitals and a medical group with over 100 providers.
