Los Angeles-based Keck Medicine of University of Southern California became one of the first clients to use Cerner's integration with medication management solutions provider DrFirst to leverage California's prescription drug monitoring program.
Cerner and DrFirst partnered on the PDMP access initiative in May. Using DrFirst's software, Cerner was able to connect its EHRs to PDMPs in 46 states and Washington, D.C., allowing physicians to review patients' prescription drug data directly in the EHR.
Keck Medicine physicians prescribe controlled medication to about 2,700 patients through the Cerner EHR. Now, by linking its EHR to California's PDMP, the Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System, physicians can access the database to reference patient-specific information in the PDMP to view a patient's controlled substance medication history.
