Interoperability startup Akiri selects former Kaiser Permanente CTO for top post

Akiri, a provider of healthcare interoperability solutions, named David A. Watson CEO.

Mr. Watson has 30-plus years of healthcare and technology leadership experience. He previously served as chief technology officer at Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente. He has also served as global vice president of healthcare product strategy at Oracle, a cloud solutions company, and as COO at SSI Group, a health IT firm.

Akiri launched in January and is a spin-off of Health2047, a business formation and commercialization enterprise. The company is focusing on creating proprietary networking technology in collaboration with a global pharmaceutical company. The American Medical Association is a founding investor and primary strategic partner of Akiri.

“Akiri will streamline and enhance healthcare delivery outcomes by improving the interoperability of data protected by world-class security,” said Mr. Watson. “My career has been dedicated to unlocking the value of data in healthcare, so this position truly is a perfect fit.”
