DrChrono allows developers to build apps on EHR with updated API

DrChrono added new features to its free application programming interface, which allows customers and developers to create third-party apps that work with the EHR vendor’s platform.

DrChrono — which offers iPhone-based EHR, practice management and revenue cycle management platforms — said its API interacts with partner applications or customers’ in-house applications 32 million times per month. These apps use data from DrChrono’s platform for a range of functions, such as to create appointments or update a patient’s chart.

DrChrono said it is the only EHR vendor that offers a free API kit to date.

Calyx Health, an Alameda, Calif.-based medical practice focused on senior care, is one of the thousands of developers registered to use DrChrono’s API.

“We evaluated a lot of EHRs and chose DrChrono because of its ease of use, impressive API capabilities and devotion to the developer experience,” Kevin Matulef, PhD, co-founder and chief technology officer of Calyx Health, said in a news release. “Their engineering team worked hard to provide the features we needed to integrate our own technology, including an easy to use app geared towards Medicare seniors, into the EHR.”
