Cerner launches primary care, pharmacy centers for senior-living communities

Cerner partnered with LifeCenters, a hospitality and senior living real estate development company, to develop centers that deliver primary care, pharmacy and fitness programs to senior-living communities across the country.

The facilities, called VIA Centers, will offer community residents access to primary care physicians and specialists such as dieticians, chiropractors and fitness and healthcare coaches at their management-run properties.

The centers will also be equipped with Cerner's Motion Health system, which aims to detect sources of musculoskeletal issues. The system comprises comprises a 12-movement musculoskeletal screen, which uses marker-less 3D motion capture technology to help trainers provide more personalized rehabilitation plans for patients.

In addition to Cerner's motion system and primary and specialty care services, the centers will also offer access to an on-site pharmacy and fitness center. The first VIA Center broke ground at Wellpoint Community at Hampton Cove Huntsville, Ala., in April. Three additional centers are expected to open at Wellpoint communities in Tennessee, Florida and New England.
