The program, managed by Allscripts’ precision medicine platform 2bPrecise and clinical decision support vendor Translational Software, aims to help participants determine the efficacy and safety of various medications based on the individual’s genetic profile.
Pharmacogenetics is an area of study dedicated to understanding the role a patient’s genetics plays in their response to different drugs.
“Enabling associates to recognize genetically based health risks so they remain healthy is of great value to both employee and employer alike,” said Rick Poulton, president of Allscripts. “And this important information can likewise help a provider arrive at the right diagnosis and best treatment faster.”
Allscripts employees who opt to participate in the program will swab the inside of their mouths to collect a genetic sample, which is mailed to a molecular testing laboratory. They will then receive test results to share with their healthcare provider.
“Leadership at Allscripts genuinely believes that genomics and precision medicine will usher in a new standard of healthcare,” Mr. Poulton added. “And we are now offering our U.S. associates the opportunity to see first-hand how genomic testing like [pharmacogenomics] can impact their own health and care.”
