Wisconsin hospital adds emergency helicopter service

Marshfield (Wis.) Medical Center will house and deploy a medical helicopter starting in January, according to a WSAW report.

Marshfield Medical Center partnered with Life Link III, a Minneapolis-based air medical transportation service that provides for other Midwest hospitals, to offer the helicopter service. Having air medical transportation can provide patients who live in rural areas across Wisconsin with better access to critical care, said Edward Eroe, president and CEO of Life Link III.

"[The helicopter] will be here 24/7…that helps us meet the needs of our patients," said Susan Turney, MD, CEO of Marshfield Clinic Health System. "Emergencies are emergencies and when you need acute care and you need transport, minutes can make a big difference."

Marshfield Clinic Health System has over 50 Wisconsin locations with physicians in 86 specialties and subspecialties.
