The $22 million project includes a 33,000-square-foot, two-story addition and 17,500-square-foot renovation of existing hospital space.
The ED saw nearly 62,000 visits in 2016, with 15 to 20 percent of patients treated in hallways and corridors.
ED renovations include an increase in number and size of treatment rooms, areas dedicated for trauma, stroke and heart attack, and behavioral health issues and work space dedicated to EMS, police and behavioral health providers.
The new emergency department is set to open in June.
