Carolinas HealthCare opens first urgent clinic in Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System is set to open its first 24/7 urgent care clinic in Charlotte Tuesday morning, according to The Charlotte Observer

The urgent care clinic is next to the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte's Dilworth neighborhood.

"The new location will help with the demand in the emergency department, where we see many patients who could have been treated in the urgent care," Stephen Jones, vice president of the medical group division of Carolinas HealthCare, told The Observer.

The clinic offers treatment at a lower cost than the ED, said Alfred Kendrick, MD, medical director of urgent care with Carolinas HealthCare. Patients can reserve slots online at the urgent care and use Amazon's Alexa technology to learn about wait times.

Including this clinic, Carolinas HealthCare operates 29 urgent-care facilities across the Charlotte region.
