Amazon may enter the digital pharmacy business in Japan

Amazon is preparing to enter the digital pharmacy business in Japan, expanding the company's foray into healthcare, Nikkei Asia reported Sept. 5.

The tech giant would partner with small- and medium-sized pharmacies to deliver medications to patients starting next year, when electronic prescriptions will be allowed in the country, several people familiar with the project told the news outlet. After receiving the prescriptions virtually or in person, people would order the medications through Amazon and the company would drop them off at their homes.

Amazon Japan declined to comment to Nikkei Asia.
