From partnering with more health systems to launching new healthcare features, here are five of Google’s healthcare moves reported by Becker’s since March:
- In May, Karen DeSalvo, MD, Google’s chief health officer, announced her retirement after five years in the role. She said she would be handing “the baton” to Michael Howell, MD, Google’s chief clinical officer.
- Google Cloud is expanding its healthcare partnerships, teaming up with Evanston, Ill.-based Endeavor Health to build a cloud-based digital pathology model. It is also working with Hackensack Meridian Health to ease clinicians’ administrative workloads using AI, and with Highmark Health to deploy generative AI tools to over 14,000 employees.
- Seattle Children’s is also partnering with Google Cloud to develop an AI-powered tool called Pathway Assistant. The tool, built using Google’s Gemini models on its Vertex AI platform, is designed to help healthcare providers quickly access and apply critical medical information.
- In March, Google released the Medical Records APIs, which lets individuals read and write medical record information across multiple apps in standard Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources format.
- In March, the company also introduced a new AI-driven feature designed to help individuals with specific health conditions learn from others with similar diagnoses. The feature, called “What People Suggest,” aggregates online discussions and insights shared by patients managing the same condition.
