Birmingham, Ala.-based UAB Medicine will put its logo on the primary game jerseys of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s men’s and women’s basketball teams under an expanded five-year partnership with UAB Athletics.

The agreement also adds UAB Medicine branding to football helmet bumpers and to baseball and softball helmets, according to an Oct. 12 news release. The branding takes effect immediately, and the football helmet bumper is scheduled to debut this season.

The deal builds on UAB Medicine’s existing marketing partnership with UAB Athletics.

UAB Medicine is “honored to deepen our relationship with UAB Athletics,” stated Dawn Bulgarella, CEO of UAB Health System. Ms. Bulgarella said the partnership will raise awareness of the health system’s care and expertise.

UAB President Ray Watts, MD, said expanding UAB Medicine’s presence alongside student-athletes strengthens ties among the university’s academic, athletics and healthcare enterprises.

Andy Kennedy, interim director of athletics and head coach of the men’s basketball team, called the agreement a meaningful investment in UAB Athletics and its student-athletes.

UAB Medicine describes itself as Alabama’s largest academic medical center.
