A new HBO documentary short tells the story of a physician who continues to provide care in his rural community as the local hospital goes bankrupt.
The film, set to be released Oct. 28, follows James Graham, DO, a family physician in Fairfax, Okla. (population 1,263), over three years as he and his staff aim to maintain access to care as Fairfax Community Hospital files for bankruptcy, according to an Oct. 14 HBO news release. He divides his time between the hospital, a nursing home and three clinics, one of which is 60 miles away and treats patients from four counties.
The documentary also features hospital staff and Elizabeth Pusey, MD, owner of Rural Wellness Fairfax, which bought the hospital in 2020 for $2.1 million.
