Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger will retain the naming rights to Erlanger Park, the home of the Chattanooga Lookouts, even if its proposed merger with Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health goes through, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported.
Erlanger signed a nonbinding letter of intent July 22 to join Prisma Health in a deal valued at $2 billion. The seven-hospital system entered a private naming rights agreement with the minor league baseball team last year, ahead of the stadium’s opening in April.
“The Erlanger name will continue to be used in future branding, and there is no reason to expect a change in the name of Erlanger Park,” Patrice Batchelor, chief marketing and communications officer for Erlanger, told the publication.
Erlanger leaders have called the stadium partnership a way to reach the Chattanooga community outside a clinical setting, including through health-focused events hosted at the venue, according to the July 23 story. The naming deal linked two organizations with roots in the city dating to the 1880s.
The proposed Erlanger-Prisma transaction remains subject to due diligence, final agreements and approval from Erlanger’s board, its oversight panel, the Hamilton County Commission, and state and federal regulators.
