Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh is hosting the cast and crew of HBO Max’s Emmy-winning medical drama “The Pitt” this week as production films exterior scenes for the show’s third season.

Crews will shoot at the hospital’s LifeFlight helipad and several of its entrances. The production will continue filming interior scenes at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif., on a set built to replicate the hospital’s architectural and historic details.

“Welcoming ‘The Pitt’ cast and production team back to [Allegheny General] has become a wonderful tradition for us each fall,” said Imran Qadeer, MD, president of Allegheny General Hospital, in an Oct. 27 news release. “We are so pleased to continue our collaboration with the show.”

Local artist Erik Greenawalt created a 10-by-18-foot chalk mural outside the hospital’s emergency department to greet the production. The artwork depicts the show’s cast in front of the hospital’s South Tower.

“The Pitt,” starring Noah Wyle, portrays the pressures facing front-line healthcare workers through the lens of an emergency department in a modern-day Pittsburgh hospital. The show premiered on HBO Max in 2025 and won six Emmy Awards this year, including outstanding drama series, out of 26 nominations.

Allegheny General, which opened in 1886 and is a level 1 trauma center, is part of Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network, a 16-hospital system that employs about 27,000 people.
