Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and its flagship facility, Allegheny General Hospital, will once again serve as the setting for the second season of The Pitt, a medical drama centered on a fictional Pittsburgh hospital.

“AHN, and our flagship trauma center Allegheny General Hospital, will again be the backdrop for The Pitt in season 2,” Dan Laurent, vice president of communications at AHN, said in an emailed statement to Becker’s.

The announcement follows the success of the show’s first season, during which AHN participated in filming. Production included three days of on-site filming at Allegheny General Hospital, while the majority of scenes were shot on a recreated emergency department set in Los Angeles. Clinical leaders from AHN—such as the chair of emergency medicine, the emergency department’s chief nursing officer, and representatives from the LifeFlight air medical program—served as consultants to ensure an authentic depiction of hospital life.

AHN confirmed its role in the upcoming season will be similar to that of season one.

“We expect to begin filming at the hospital in the next month or so and are currently in the process of planning with the production team,” Mr. Laurent said.

The Pitt’s first season concluded with a 97% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, according to Warner Bros. Studios, and the initial 14 episodes drew an average global audience exceeding 10 million viewers.
