Southeast Health in Dothan, Ala., has joined the Mayo Clinic Care Network, becoming the first hospital in Alabama to participate in the collaboration.

The Mayo Clinic Care Network connects independent health systems with Mayo Clinic expertise, providing member organizations access to clinical knowledge, digital tools and other resources designed to support patient care while allowing care to remain local, according to a March 6 news release from Mayo Clinic.

Here are five things to know:

  1. Through the network, physicians at Southeast Health will be able to consult Mayo Clinic specialists and use a range of clinical tools to help guide patient care.

  2. These resources include AskMayoExpert, a point-of-care database with information on hundreds of medical conditions; eConsults, which allow physicians to seek second opinions from Mayo Clinic specialists; and eBoards, which enable medical teams to review complex cases with Mayo Clinic multidisciplinary panels via scheduled video conferences.

  3. In addition to clinical consultation tools, Southeast Health clinicians will gain access to Mayo Clinic educational resources for patients as well as professional development and continuing medical education opportunities.

  4. Members of the Mayo Clinic Care Network remain independent organizations but gain access to Mayo Clinic expertise and platform-enabled clinical solutions.

  5. The network includes more than 45 healthcare organizations worldwide, according to the news release.

Southeast Health is an academic, community-based health system that includes a 420-bed medical center.
