The program matches enrolled patients with a clinician, health coach and registered dieticians based on their specific needs. Patients can also access digital tools, including a mobile app, designed to promote sustainable lifestyle changes for achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Some patients may also be prescribed GLP-1s as appropriate.
Ochsner launched its cardiometabolic digital care offering nearly a decade ago. Since then, more than 50,000 patients have received care for hypertension, Type 2 diabetes and hyperlipidemia. With the addition of its weight management services, the program will now meet patients across the entire cardiometabolic health spectrum, according to a Sept. 4 news release.
Ochsner said it is collaborating with contracted payers and employers, along with its own employee health plan, to ensure coverage for patients in the program.
The offering comes as many health systems nationwide ramp up weight loss management programs to address growing obesity rates.
