Care Comparison provides customers with "packaged" costs based on previous claims and provides data on all related services, not just the procedure itself. The tool allows patients to compare up to 10 facilities based on factors they choose, such as cost, patient satisfaction, length of stay and complications.
Currently, the tool provides the estimated costs for 30 procedures in 17 states. In addition, patients can find quality information on 150 commonly performed procedures. The tool also lists information on 100 outpatient centers nationwide.
Five Blue Cross companies have collaborated on the tool, and it is currently available to 22 million customers across the country.
