VA names new chief data officer: 4 things to know

Kshemendra Paul will serve as chief data officer and executive director for data governance and analytics at the Department of Veterans Affairs, VA announced Sept. 23.

Four things to know:

1. As chief data officer, Mr. Paul will oversee data governance, data analytics and business intelligence capabilities to support VA-wide decision-making and provide analysis about veterans and VA programs.

2. Mr. Paul brings experience in data architecture, data sharing, safeguarding and digital transformation to his new role with the VA.

3. VA created the position of chief data officer under the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018, which was signed by President Trump Jan. 14.

4. VA manages data on veterans including population projections and statistics on their use of VA benefits and healthcare services.
