Grant Regional noticed suspicious activity on its email account environment and launched an investigation into the incident, according to a May 23 press release from the hospital. Through the investigation, Grant Regional learned that an unauthorized party accessed an employee email account from March 20 to March 24.
On May 9, the hospital concluded its review of the incident and found that the following patient information was within the employee email account: names, financial account information, dates of birth, medical information, health insurance information, taxpayer ID numbers and Social Security numbers.
The hospital said that it is unaware if any of the information from the breach has been misused, but is mailing letters to all affected individuals.
