Trend Micro: 6 cybersecurity predictions for 2018

Trend Micro, a Tokyo-based data security and cybersecurity company, released its “Trend Micro Security Predictions for 2018” report Dec. 5.

Here are six cybersecurity trends business leaders should watch for in 2018, as outlined in the report.

1. Ransomware will continue to be recognized as a cybercrime “mainstay,” however, other forms of digital extortion will also gain traction.

2. Cyberattackers will explore new avenues to exploit internet of things devices.

3. Global losses from business email compromise scams will surpass $9 billion.

4. Cyberattackers will use techniques from successful spam campaigns to inform “cyberpropaganda” and fake news efforts.

5. Cyberattackers will apply machine learning and blockchain technologies to enhance their evasion techniques.

6. Companies will deploy additional enterprise applications and platforms, putting themselves at risk for various vulnerabilities.
