Survey: Which execs do senior information security officers report to?

The plurality of senior information security executives report directly to the CEO, according to a survey out of PwC, CIO and CSO.

For the survey, the organizations asked PwC clients and readers of CIO and CSO about their attitudes toward information security at their respective companies. Respondents comprised 9,500-plus CEOs, CFOs, CIOs, chief information security officers, chief security officers, vice presidents and directors of IT and security practices from more than 122 countries.

Here are the titles respondents cited when asked to identify to whom the CISO, CSO or equivalent senior information security executive directly reports to.  

1. CEO: 40 percent

2. Board of directors: 27 percent

3. CIO: 24 percent

4. CSO: 17 percent

5. Chief privacy officer: 15 percent
