NYC Health + Hospitals employee under probe in possible patient records breach

New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals is investigating whether an employee improperly viewed patient records. 

The employee is accused of inappropriately disclosing the protected health information of patients in motor vehicle accidents between 2016 and November 2019. NYC Health + Hospitals announced the investigation Dec. 2. 

Patient data that may have been exposed includes names and telephone numbers. 

NYC Health + Hospitals is recommending that patients who were in vehicle accidents and treated at the health system during the time being investigated contact the system for more information.
