More than 112,000 patients affected by cybersecurity incident at Missouri hospital

Marshall, Mo.-based Fitzgibbon Hospital told HHS that 112,072 individuals were affected by a recent data security incident and said some patient data may have been stolen.

The hospital began notifying affected individuals Dec. 30, according to a notice on its website. Fitzgibbon said it detected unauthorized access to its network in June, launching an investigation. On Dec. 1, it discovered that some patient data may have been accessed and stolen, including names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, financial account numbers, health insurance information and medical info.

Fitzgibbon said it is not aware of any improper use of the breached data.

According to DataBreaches.net, the Daixin Team ransomware gang was responsible for the incident and posted Fitzgibbon patient data to the dark web. The hospital didn't respond to requests for comment from Becker's on that report.
