McAfee: Healthcare accounts for 26% of North American cybersecurity incidents in Q2

Healthcare surpassed the public sector as the most-breached industry in North America, according to a McAfee Labs report.

For the report, McAfee researchers analyzed cybersecurity incidents from the second quarter of 2017 to identify relevant malware trends for various industries. The researchers identified 311 publicly disclosed cybersecurity incidents, up 3 percent from the first quarter of 2017.

The public sector had represented the most-breached North American industry for the last six quarters, according to McAfee Labs. However, healthcare, which comprised 26 percent of cybersecurity incidents in the continent, overtook the public sector this quarter.

On a globe scale, health, public and education sectors collectively comprised more than 50 percent of all cybersecurity incidents. The majority of publicly disclosed cybersecurity incidents (78 percent) took place in the Americas.
