How AI could be hackers' next way of exploiting healthcare

The Health Sector Cybersecurity Coordination Center detailed in a Jan. 17 brief how artificial intelligence can be used by hackers to aid in malware development, forming a serious threat to healthcare cybersecurity.

Four things to know about AI and malware:

  1. Artificial intelligence is now evolving and can be leveraged by hackers to further the development of malware and phishing schemes, according to HHS.

  2. What makes artificial intelligence dangerous for the healthcare sector is the ability of hackers to use it to easily and quickly customize attacks.

  3. It is unclear if there will ever be ways to specifically prevent AI-generated malware, according to HHS.

  4. HHS recommends healthcare organizations use existing resources that explore the best practices for using and securing artificial intelligence to protect their infrastructure as these threats become more prevalent.
