Healthcare sector sees largest increase in cyberattacks in 2022

Global cyberattacks increased by 38 percent in 2022 compared to 2021, with the healthcare sector seeing the largest increase in attacks, according to a new report from Check Point Research.

The newly released data analyzed 2022 cyberattack trends and found the following:

  1. The three most attacked sectors in 2022 were healthcare, education/research and government.
     
  2. The U.S. saw a 57 percent increase in the number of cyberattacks in 2022.
  3. Healthcare organizations in the U.S. suffered an average of 1,463 weekly cyberattacks, which is 74 percent higher than 2021’s numbers.
     
  4. The healthcare sector ranked third out of all sectors for the most cyberattacks.
