Healthcare and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council appoints 1st executive director for cybersecurity

The Healthcare and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council named Gregory T. Garcia its first executive director for cybersecurity, effective Oct. 1.

In this role, Mr. Garcia will aim to strengthen the healthcare industry's cybersecurity posture. HHS recognizes HPH SCC as a principal industry partner in its efforts to develop sectorwide strategies to protect the U.S. healthcare system against physical and online threats.

Mr. Garcia was the first assistant secretary for cybersecurity and communications at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He also served as executive director of the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council and as a co-founder of the IT Sector Coordinating Council.

"I am honored and eager to help the health sector bring the fight to the cyberthreat and work with other interdependent sectors, such as communications, energy, transportation and water, to ensure our collective security," Mr. Garcia said.
