AHA rolls out webinar series addressing cybersecurity

The American Hospital Association is offering a webinar series to ease healthcare's cybersecurity woes.

Patients entrust hospitals to protect their medical data 24/7, year-round. This responsibility has become a challenge in a digital world where cyberthreats are only becoming more complex. Charged with this duty, hospitals — with the help of their IT departments — are continuously advancing their culture of security through educating staff and implementing new technology to mitigate cyber risk.

"But cybersecurity is more than just an IT issue – it requires an organization-level-risk reduction and response plan, leadership support and board oversight, and vigilance from everyone with access to the network," Chantal Worzala, PhD, AHA's vice president of health information and policy operations, wrote in an organization blog post.

This is what inspired AHA to produce the series, which targets hospital and health system leaders. It will explore emerging cybersecurity risks and how to manage them to ensure administrators are fed accurate and timely information to help them ward off attacks.

The cyberthreat landscape is constantly changing, and cybersecurity should remain a priority for everyone, Dr. Worzala wrote. "Protecting patients and their personal data is fundamental to our mission to provide care, and essential to maintaining patients' trust," she added.
