5 things CIOs need to know about cybersecurity

Recent ransomware attacks at Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health made national headlines and reinforced just how important cybersecurity is for CIOs.

Here are five cybersecurity updates reported by Becker’s since Oct. 11.

 

  1. A survey from cybersecurity company Trend Micro Incorporated found that 25 percent of healthcare organizations that were hit by ransomware attacks were forced to completely halt operations.
  2. Sixty-one percent of healthcare organizations have had their cloud infrastructure attacked in the past year, according to a study from cybersecurity vendor Netwrix.
  3. FBI data found that 25 percent of ransomware attacks targeted the healthcare industry.
  4. The FBI and HHS issued a warning about the Daixin Team, a ransomware group targeting healthcare organizations.
  5. A new report from ISC found that the U.S. has a shortage of 400,000 cybersecurity professionals.
