271,000 patients affected by health IT vendor breach

Healthcare IT services provider Avem Health Partners has notified 271,000 patients that their information may have been compromised due to a third-party hacking incident on IT company 365 Data Centers.

On Dec. 13, Avem filed a breach report to the state of Maine's attorney general's office stating that some of its patient information that was stored on 365's server was subject to unauthorized access.

Patient information such as names, birthdates, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, health insurance information, and diagnosis and treatment information have been potentially compromised.

Avem said it is offering affected individuals one year of complimentary identity and credit monitoring.

The company also said it is examining its vendor relationships and evaluating vendors' security measures.
