10 riskiest states for malware attacks

South Dakota is the riskiest state for malware attacks, according to the 2022 SonicWall Cyber Threat Report.

SonicWall, a cybersecurity company, compiled data about malware attacks worldwide and found 2.8 billion hits in the first half of 2022, an 11 percent increase year over year. To measure the riskiest states, SonicWall examined the percentage of organizations with malware attacks and volume of attacks in each state.

The 10 riskiest states were:

1. South Dakota
2. Kansas
3. Hawaii
4. Iowa
5. Rhode Island
6. New Jersey
7. New Mexico
8. Pennsylvania
9. Indiana
10. Connecticut

Florida and California had the most malware attacks in the first half of the year, reporting more than 140 million attacks each. New York wasn't far behind, with 133 million attacks.
