Here are three takeaways from the report, in which 200 primary care and specialty physicians were surveyed about their attitudes toward patient-facing digital access initiatives.
1. Nearly all respondents believe their online profiles are very or extremely important for patient acquisition and referrals. However, nearly half reported having no involvement in the creation of their profiles, with most saying they would like to play a bigger role in the profiles’ maintenance.
2. While 64 percent of the physicians surveyed said their health systems do not offer online appointment scheduling for patients, almost half of that group have at least some interest in implementing this service.
3. Overall, physicians are very interested in becoming more engaged with digital patient access initiatives: More than 90 percent said they see room for improvement in their health systems’ communication regarding the business rationale, rollout plans and ongoing updates of those initiatives.
