The most important quality physicians look for in an insurer is its reimbursement rate, according to a recent Medscape study of more than 6,300 physicians across 25 specialties.

Physicians surveyed rated the following qualities as the most important in an insurer on a five-point scale.

  • Reimbursement rate — 4.7

  • Ease of doing business — 4.4

  • Frequency of denials — 4.4

  • Willingness to reevaluate denied claims — 4.3

  • Speed of claims payment/reimbursement — 4.3

  • Accuracy and speed of responses to questions — 4.2

  • Precertification and preapproval requirements — 4.0
  • Rating system transparency — 3.8
