Physician salaries decreased from 2017 to 2018, survey finds

The average salary for physicians and surgeons dropped from $258,039 in 2017 to $250,000 in 2018, according to MedPage Today‘s 2018 salary survey results.

The online survey got more than 20,000 responses from physicians, 7,753 of whom included salary information used for the analysis. The survey also included data on physician assistant and nurse practitioner compensation, which increased.

Here are the 2017 and 2018 salaries for three healthcare professions:

Physician/surgeon
2018: $250,000
2017: $258,039

Physician assistant
2018: $110,000
2017: $108,311

Nurse practitioner
2018: $109,000
2017: $102,523
