Seven healthcare-related professions made a list of the most popular jobs that pay at least $100,000 a year, with physicians and surgeons having the highest annual mean wage on the list at $214,700, an analysis by LiveCareer found.  

As the number of nurse practitioners hits a record high in the U.S. and demand for advanced practice providers grows, 48 percent of healthcare organizations are using incentive pay for at least some of their APPs, a SullivanCotter survey found.

More healthcare providers are employed by for-profit or nonprofit organizations, and fewer practitioners are self-employed — a shift over the last 15 years that could affect annual earnings, a study published in JAMA Network Open found.

California has the highest annual wage for nurse practitioners in the U.S., with Golden State NPs earning $126,770 a year on average, according to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
