Non-Profit Community Hospital CEO’s Compensation Tops $1.1M

Linda Shyavitz, president and CEO of Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, Mass., made around $1.18 million from Oct. 2008-Sept. 2009, far more than her peers at similarly small hospitals, according to a Sun Chronicle report.

Ms. Shyavitz receives large bonuses for meeting performance goals, including multi-million dollar cash surpluses, according to the non-profit hospital’s board. She has led Sturdy for more than 25 years.

Around 38 percent of Ms. Shyavitz’s earnings are linked to performance goals and bonuses, according to the report. Her base salary — $432,970 in the 2008-9 fiscal year — is actually less than that of many community hospital CEOs in the state.

In total earnings, however, Ms. Shyavitz is well ahead of other community hospital administrators and closer to the presidents of some of New England’s top medical providers, according to the report.
