Cook County (Ill.) Health & Hospital System administrators received approval from county commissioners for pay increases days after applying to end inpatient care and other services at Oak Forest (Ill.) Hospital, according to reports.
The 213-bed hospital has seen a decline in patients and the county hopes to save $25 million by turning it into an outpatient care center and reducing staff, according to the Chicago Tribune report. A public hearing is set to take place today on the matter.
The largest pay raise went to the CFO of Oak Forest and Provident Hospital in Chicago, John Cookinham. His pay grew from $125,000 to $165,000 to correct what system officials called a “compensation error,” according to the Sun-Times report. Thomas Dohn, an associate administrator at Oak Forest, received a $25,000 pay increase, bringing his total compensation to $114,093.
